DIY Air Plant Terrarium

I've been looooving terrariums lately and cant seem to make enough of them! I recently made one that I really liked and I documented it, so I thought I would share it so you can make your own as well :)

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Let's start with probably the two most important things...
1. An air plant (I purchased mine at a local shop in downtown for about $6)
2. A glass container, I decided on this cylinder one that was ~ $5 at Michael's
Then, the other stuff!
3. Sand
4. Rocks/pebbles of your choice to add some texture
I got both my sand and rocks at dollar tree because they were much cheaper than if i had purchased them at the craft store
5. Moss - Optional
6. Figurine - Optional

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

You're going to want to wash out your container if needed, try and make sure there aren't too many smudges from your fingers and stuff when you are handling the glass container. Then, add the sand! I included a picture with an aerial view as well as a side view so you can get an idea of how much I added relative to the height of my glass cylinder. I bought my sand at the dollar store but you can also find it at any craft store or Walmart. I went with black but this sand comes in so many colors, you can really get fun with it or even layer different colors of sand.

Next, I added this moss I found at Michael's. I actually found this moss in the section for where you find the supplies to make dioramas of the missions of California but I liked it and it served the purpose I wanted to I went ahead and bought it. It also had multiple colors, which I liked but if you prefer just one color then only add one, or don't add any moss at all. The bag of moss was about 3 or 4 bucks and I had some left over after

Finally, I added the figurine and some pebbles (also from the dollar store, hooray savings!) and obviously...my air plant and my terrarium was complete.

...How cute is this elephant figurine? I found it amongst the kid stuff at the craft store!

Thank you guys for reading this post, hope you found it helpful even though it was really a simple little project it adds a lot to a shelf or table top.

Septum experience & Aftercare

Hello again & happy Sunday!
Sorry for not posting in a couple of weeks, I've been quite busy and Sundays seems to be days where it'd easiest for me to fit in time to write a new post.

Today I'll be talking about my septum piercing experience and aftercare.

Here are some general facts about my piercing:
1. I got my septum pierced on my 18th birthday (April 2014, so it's been several months now)
2. I was pierced by someone who had already pierced me before
3. I got pierced with a circular barbell and it's still the same jewelry I have in now (November 2014)
4. I have no history of bleeding with piercings and did not bleed during this one
5. I was in a laying down position when I got pierced, I was not sitting up

So now that we have the basic facts about my piercing, let's get into it.

THE ACTUAL PIERCING:
I had planned on getting this piercing for a while now and I got pierced at a local tattoo shop that I had been to before. I had also done research on the piercing prior to getting it pierced (watched videos, read posts, looked at pain level and aftercare) I went in with my older sister (20) and she was also getting her septum pierced. The guy took us back to the piercing area of the shop and showed us  jewelry and then asked who wanted to go first. I decided to go first and not because I was being brave, just because I thought if I watched my sister get pierced before me I might chicken out and not want to go through with it.

He sat me down on the blue piercing chair and I was laying back sorta like if you were in a chair at the dentist office. Then he clamped my nose, counted down from 3 and stuck the needle through my septum, at this point in time a single tear rolled down my face but it was not  because the piercing was painful. Then he started to take the needle out of the other side as he slid the circular barbell in then screwed in the ball at the end of it.

The piercing in total probably only took about a minute and personally I did not think it was painful but I do generally have a high pain tolerance for piercings so that is going to depend on the person getting pierced as well as the piercer (because I have seen some nasty ugly septum piercing vids that do not look pleasant)
I thought I'd share a pic of me and my piercing, so here I am months later & still loving it!

AFTER THE PIERCING; DAY OF:
One very cool thing about septum piercings is that you can flip it in your nose and it is not visible AT ALL (unless of course someone is looking up your nose)
After getting my piercing it took a little bit of getting used to, the jewelry felt heavy on my nose and I felt a little funky but of course that is normal, there was a foreign object hanging from a place on my face where there previously wasn't. They do not recommend you touch or much less flip your piercing inside your nose right after getting pierced. I, however, did it anyway. I had to go to dinner with my dad that same day and did not want him to see so I flipped it upside down and hid it from him. I left it in there all night and tried not to touch or play with it. My only problem was it was obviously very new and still a little swollen and sore so when I tried to flip it back how it belonged it hurt a little and wouldn't move. So I left it hidden for an entire day until I felt it comfortable enough for me to move it again.

AFTERCARE:
My piercer gave me an aftercare sheet and recommended H2Ocean which I had also read about online. So I went to my local Hot Topic and purchased some. This saline spray is so much easier than making your own and having to dab it on with a cotton ball. So as for aftercare went I would just spray that H2Ocean right in my nose 2-3 times a day and everything healed correctly and I never had any issues with it. I didn't stop using it like a month or two after, I kept using it until I ran out but once the piercing was healed I would use it less often 1-2 times a day (except when I would forget, oops)

I know a video of my piercing procedure exists but I am not quite sure where, if I can find it I will upload it here to share. Thanks for reading!

Also, I have gotten a lot of opinions both positive and negative (like, why do you have that? or do you like looking like a bull? but I push them of to the side and continue to like my piercing because it was MY decision and nothing anyone says is going to make me like it less. So if you want to get a piercing and are afraid of what people are going to say, ignore them and do what makes YOU happy

Sunday Funday

Hello lovely people and welcome to my blog!
I've been wanting to start a blog for so long now and I finally decided to do it because...well, why not. I have no idea how to run a blog nor what y'all want to see/read. I however, do know what inspires me and what I want to share with the world.

I guess I will start off with a little bit about myself. I am currently a freshman in college attending a 4-year university. I'm a communications major and I'm loving college life so far. Apart from school, I work an office job which at times gets boring but I love it because it is very different than most the jobs other kids my age are working and it exposes me to many things, like costuming and design. Another bit about myself, I love music (particularly pop punk) fashion, and art.

So, this post has not been thought out at all but I was so excited to start my blog I couldn't wait to think out the perfect post so let's just go with it. I guess now that you know a little bit about me, I'll share my Sunday with you.

Today is a more productive Sunday than most. I enjoyed my sleeping in which was much needed after a weekend of being mauled at a concert then hanging out with my two nephews (1 and 8 years old) all day yesterday. I woke up and walked straight over to my Keurig and popped in a breakfast blend K-cup. Yum! I then added some cream and sugar and grabbed a piece of toast and made my way to my tv. I was in the mood for relaxing and watching some thing fun. I turned on Netflix and decided on a childhood favorite, The Parent Trap. My friend came over briefly before going to work and watched some of the movie with me. After she left and the movie ended I decided to get off my butt and do something! So, into my room I went and quite literally stared at my wall. That's where my inspiration came from. I looked at it and remembered that last Sunday at Michael's I bought a paper reindeer head. My original idea for this was to gold leaf this and stick it on my wall. I really wanted to get working on the head immediately but had no gold leaf-ing anything at home. So I used my little brain and decided to grab two paint color and see where that took me. well, now I have a turquoise reindeer head with gold antlers and I love it! I cant wait for it to dry completely so I can put it on my wall.

As for now, I have a basket of laundry begging to be folded so I'll see you all soon. Thanks!

Here is the finished result of my Sunday wall art project.
